Have you bought, or are thinking about buying, an electric car? One of the biggest things you’ll be thinking about is how charging works. After all, it’s a new experience! However, don’t fret, as it’s not difficult or anything to stress about. We’ll explain how it works here, whether you’re recharging at home or in public.
Charging an Electric Vehicle at Home
If you buy an electric car, you will receive a normal charger along with the car. This is a smaller volt charger that can be plugged into a normal outlet, allowing you to charge from any garage or standard outlet. It does, however, take longer to reach a full charge when compared to higher a quality electric car charging stations for a home. Electric car charging stations for a home are available to purchase that require some setup, but overall do a much better job of charging the vehicle. If you buy a car, we recommend picking up a charging station for your garage and having it installed.
Charging an Electric Vehicle in Public
A quick bit of research should bring up charging stations available in your area. There, you’ll be able to charge your car, though sometimes for a fee or with a required membership. It is workable if you need to, but definitely better to rely on charging your car at home. Public charging is only going to improve as electric cars become more and more common, so this won’t be an issue for very much longer.
What Are The Benefits?
Making the change to electric cars come with a number of benefits. You’ll save huge on fuel, with it being about equal to spending one dollar per gallon on gas. A federal tax incentive exists for electric car owners, allowing you to save thousands of dollars. At the end of 2017, over 20,000 charging stations were available around the United States, and that number is only increasing. By 2040, it’s expected that over half of all the vehicles in the country will be electric.
