Having a car is a necessity for many people in the United States, particularly for those who don’t leave by any reliable form of public transportation. Scratches can have a number of causes, many of them not easy to prevent. In some cases, scratches are caused by keying, which often occurs simply as a random act of violence, which is unfortunate certainly by difficult to prevent on a whole. Parking your car in any given parking lot also opens up the door – literally and figuratively – to your car sustaining some type of scratch. And weather related events such as hail make up as much as forty percent of all insurance claims here in the United States.
Fortunately, many scratches can be fixed with touch paint. Touch paint will come in a variety of types, as it is likely that your car will need touch paint that has been specifically designed for it, in the exact shade of the original paint. Such touch paint is likely to include everything from Volvo touch up paint to Toyota touch up paint.
However, before touch paint can ever be applied it is necessary for your car to be professionally assessed, as some scratches go deeper than others and will require more intensive repair work than just touch paint. Such scratches will cost more to fix, but it is very important to take your car into a professional auto body shop, as it is very much unlikely that you yourself have the experience necessary to do it all on your own and still be able to get the results that you are looking for.
When the scratch or scratches on your car are evaluated, they will be given a classification. If your scratch is ranked as a 1A scratch, it is very minor and mild scratch and might require touch paint and nothing else to repair it. A 1B scratch is the next level of severity, followed by a level 2 scratch, level 3 scratch and, finally, a level 4 scratch, the most severe type of scratch of them all. If your car is diagnosed with a level 4 scratch, it is likely to need relatively extensive – and sometimes expensive – repair work done on it.
After your car has been repaired, you might decide to get a clear coat put over the paint. A clear coat is relatively thin, but can provide ample protection to the paint job, as well as prevent the paint from fading and discoloration over time. For many people, adding on a clear coat is well worth it – just as worth it as the touch paint that made the repair in the first place, or was at least one important component of said repair, depending, of course, on the extent of the damage.
